Songs from the Campfire by Craig Gould: Album Review
Craig Gould makes spellbinding folk music that’ll soothe your soul. His album “Songs from the Campfire” is an incredible mix of emotions and passionate storytelling. Each track is layered with a playful acoustic guitar presence and Craig’s moving voice guiding the way.
The album opens up with “The Campfire Song.” It’s a rich and polished melody with a serene narrative. It just shows how versatile the acoustic guitar is and how the beauty of open chords and leads can make up a solid tune. Craig’s vocal chops are at full throttle on the piece “Ain’t No Place to Hide.” The lyrics are pretty whimsical too, which adds to the excitement of the singer’s ode. Aside from that, a clean trumpet, piano, and bassline keep the guitar company while the percussions maintain the cadence. We feel a bit of the blues in the upbeat number “Burned.” There’s an interesting solo that ties to the genre, and other than that, the song’s folksy nature is still prominent. That essence is heightened more in the emotionally driven folk-blues track “Old Brown Boots.” You can feel the sentiment in Craig’s voice, and it tugs on your heartstrings all the same.
“Captain of the Seas” sounds like a powerful tale channeling a lone traveler on his mission to explore the vast open sea. The piano and sway of the violin paint a picture of a personal odyssey full of adventure and self-reflection. In conclusion, Craig truly did a fantastic job with each track, and I highly recommend it!
