A band of five veterans emerged officially on the fifth of February, 2023, out of the Oklahoma City Music Scene with their debut rock album Midwave, a digital LP. They call themselves collectively as Starscheme, which has opened for The Struts, NOFX, and Seether so far.
Starscheme has already garnered 785 All-time streams on Spotify, along with 63 monthly listeners and 747 plays on Bandcamp since their debut. You will find them on heavy rotation at Spy FM.
Though Starscheme has utilized heavy, proggy guitars in Midwave, the sound is not in the forefront, which helps the heady, breathy, sometimes soaring harmonies shine.
Starscheme recommends their longest track, Light Speed Desperado, for special listening. The song conveys exceptionally well-written lyrics that tell a story of a disappointed man coming for revenge after being pushed down to a land of no return. What sets this song apart from the rest of the album is that the lyrics are done rolling out in a matter of two minutes, leaving a long and cinematic instrumental behind. The instrumental makes use of background noises resembling mesmerizing imagery of a horrifying dungeon behind.
Starschemeโs Midwave is redolent of the 80s rock arena while resonating with popular bands like Arctic Monkies, Radiohead, Bush, Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, and others as it explores the field of indie rock with powerful basslines, wet drum sound, piano riffs, and evocative layered vocals. From a bassy opening track like โAct like it Iโ to an even darker guitar sound and sensational vocals of its sequel โAct like it II,โ the album follows an epic sound formation with an enigmatic darkness that creates a world of abstract depth.
