Targets by Matthew and the Arrogant Sea: Review

“Targets” is a delightful indie rock piece by Matthew and the Arrogant Sea. This melodic act has created a tune worthy of praise, primarily because of the narrative and intriguing rhythm sections. Ranging from indie-folk to a full-blown rock arrangement, “Targets” is musical diversity at its finest. So, if you’re an avid rocker with a soft spot for folk music as well, then put your faith in Matthew and the Arrogant Sea for a solid melodic experience.
A gentle acoustic guitar initiates the entrance of “Targets,” and resonating electric guitar chords tag along. Eventually, when the vocals enter, the track’s poetic aura can be felt, and it slowly grows into a more powerful crescendo. Afterward, a gripping bass section uplifts the tune and percussions join in on the fun. When Matthew and the Arrogant Sea activate the core of the track with an indie-rock sequence, it’s refreshing to hear and energizes you. Even more so when a light synth joins the track, and creates an allure worth jamming to.
Matthew and the Arrogant Sea prove that the simplistic aspects of rock and roll are still relevant today. At times you don’t really need a 2-minute solo, or a fast-paced beat section, what’s really needed is music in its raw take. Just instruments, and a voice that sounds pretty darn good. That being said, all facets come into play excellently in “Targets,” so don’t miss out on it!
