JENSEYโs latest single โTennesseeโ is a gritty, heart-thumping ode to struggle and salvation, soaked in soul and steeped in storytelling. Released under Indian River Music Company, the track sees the rising country star carving his own lane with old-school country grit with indie folk sincerity. With a vocal tone that recalls the emotional intensity of Zach Bryan and the rasp of John Rzeznik, JENSEY bares his soul sexily.
JENSEY opens the song with his voice coming clear-cut, sharp, and directed like he is singing into the mic while keeping his flashing, clear eyes on you. He sings alongside the only instrument being hands that clap with a jingle. Behind him, tender and warm harmonies wail and hum too. He sings, โI am tryna walk the line that you taught me to, but Johnny, this is hard when the devil walks it too,โ paying homage to Cash with a sharp lyrical edge. The way he sings and pronounces every word and line with a sharpness and a sizzling charm and charisma gets your adrenaline pumping.
But โTennesseeโ doesnโt stay still. Strings wriggle in with high, taut emotion, and the percussion bursts to life with a jingling joy that clashes against the songโs darker themes. When the chorus hitsโโTennessee, I need waterโฆโโJENSEYโs voice soars with the pain of a man on the edge, pulling the audience into his plea. Itโs a cathartic release, which should be shouted in unison at a packed-out show, and he knows it. โKeep singing,โ he calls, as more voices join him with a soulful โOoOoH,โ turning the track into a communal outcry for healing.
โTennesseeโ tackles addiction with empathy and urgency. The song is for all those who are fighting alcohol addiction, but without judgment and much more joy, for the path to healing to become much more understandable and relatable, and doable, knowing others are at it too. Check it out on Spotify.
