Palmer takes you on a reflective journey through Tennessee in his latest single, “Tennessee,” from their dual single release “Ghost Town/Tennessee.”
Led by songwriter Jon Brasfield on vocals and guitar, along with David Hamblin on bass and Nick Piper on drums, Palmer delivers a compelling blend of garage rock vigor and melodic soothing appeal. Recorded at Legacy Sounds Studio and produced by Omar Zehery of Hit the Lights, the track boasts a raw, energetic sound that captivates from the first drumbeat.
The upbeat instrumentals enhance the emotional impact of the song, elevating it to new heights of expression and authenticity. The song opens with pounding drums cutting up with shimmering cymbals, prepping up for Brasfield’s soft, deep vocals to enter the scene. His voice exudes vulnerability and tranquility in the verses which leads to an energetic anchor in the refrain, drawing us into reflection and contemplation. The track glides with the guitars add a melodic richness, gently strumming to complement Brasfield’s emotive delivery. Brasfield’s brother, Chris send an impassioned soulful release with his backing vocals.
Influenced by psychology and geography, and musical icons and bands such as Elvis Costello, and David Bowie, The Beatles, Talking Heads, Wilco, and Queens of the Stone Age, Palmer crafts a field with the music and the songwriting that feels familiar yet refreshingly unique.
As part of a series of dual singles, “Tennessee” serves as Palmer’s struggle with exploring yourself and staying rooted. With more releases and an EP on the horizon, Palmer promises to continue captivating audiences with their evocative storytelling and dynamic soundscapes.
