The Ascensión by Experiments & Observations on Electricity (EOE) is an immersive four-track album that brings listeners into a haunting, atmospheric journey. Released on October 18, 2024, by Cult Image Music, the album was inspired by a blend of field recordings, studio experimentation, and ambient influences like William Basinski and Brian Eno. Each track builds a layered, surreal atmosphere that feels like an auditory exploration of mysterious, otherworldly realms.
The Ascensión opens with “Movement 1,” an eerie, nearly eight-minute soundscape of hazy, textured layers. Atmospheric textures create a sense of looming unease as glimmers of sound slowly emerge, simulating an approach to an unknown and foreboding place.
In “Movement 2,” a deep, buzzing drone sets the tone as glitchy, swirling sounds slice through the steady atmosphere. Pulsations build within the track, creating an unpredictable rhythm. The track unfolds like a sonic labyrinth, continuously shifting and blurring the boundary between noise and melody.
“Movement 3” takes the journey to a cold, echoing landscape, as if the listener is traveling through a dimly lit tunnel. Clarity becomes distorted by reverberating movements and ghostly echoes. The atmospheric shifts keep the listener in suspense, adding an industrial edge to the piece.
The closing track, “Movement 4,” is the EP’s longest at over twelve minutes. The sounds of engines and air surround the listener, giving the sensation of taking flight through a dark, vast expanse. The sonic elements come together in a climactic crescendo, merging airy drones with more intense, driving textures that evoke a surreal sense of ascension.
Listen to The Ascensión by Experiments & Observations on Electricity to meditate on the urban existence and find comfort in the lonesome here and now.
