The Bombhappies release a new single ‘Boléro’ The Bombhappies, a Swedish alternative rock band from the 1990s, have returned after a ten-year hiatus.
Their new single “Boléro” is made up of only one tune and one rhythm that is repeated over and over with diverse orchestrations.
The title alludes to Ravel’s renowned composition “Boléro,” which is arranged similarly. Ravel’s piece is made up of only one melody and one rhythm that is played over and over with different orchestrations.
The words of the song are about a relationship that has gone in circles over the years. Everything is repeated, but with different orchestrations each time.
The Bombhappies are a (very well) hidden gem in alternative rock music, emerging from Karlstad, Sweden in the mid 1990’s (more precisely 1995), but still going strong as a band.
Sonically, the band strums the chords of numerous bands from the early 1990s US college rock scene, beats comparable rythms to the heroes of 1970s Swedish progressive music, and closes with melodies influenced by 1980s British post-punk. The Bombhappies are known for their raw/live sounding textures, which are continued throughout the band’s history. The Bombhappies, who have been together for nearly 30 years, continue to rehearse regularly in their Stockholm studio, waiting for people to get it.
