The Encore You Didnโt Ask For by Tough on Fridays: Album Review
The music of Tough On Fridays pertains to a hurricane of alternative rock swirling around with a sentimental twist. I found the bandโs sound to be extremely catchy, this is especially so because of the guitar riffs and the gripping vocal melodies. In their album entitled โThe Encore You Didnโt Ask Forโ, each track represents a polished tone that is a worthwhile experience to hear.
A specific group of rockers from my end happened to believe that alternative rock and the sound of nu-metal were dead, but to my surprise bands like Tough on Fridays have certainly kept that genre alive. In their opening track โOverboard!โ, an anthemic roar is felt through the singerโs spirit. In combination with solid electric guitar pieces and a truly fat bassline, the track manages to bind you to a frenzy. The rhythm arrangement of โSink or Swimโ is truly stellar. With one clean note, the guitar shifts its gears to a distorted one and energizes the tune. I applaud the drummer and singer for their transitions had an intriguing time signature and their flow resonated deeply.
Softer and more folksy tracks like โGrowing Painsโ had this mysterious almost ambient nature to them. It was a refreshing segment away from the heavier doses of alternative rock from the band. It showed that the band can show off their creative angle as musicians! The guitars had a distinct clean tone, which blended beautifully with the vocalist.
