Harpoon by Faint On Call: Review
The sound of Faint On Call is a fusion of alternative shoegaze post-grunge music from the 1990s and melody-driven rock from the late 1980s. The band was formed in lockdown. During the first year of the bandโs existence, Tobias Hawkins, Cristian Hernandez, and Arthur McConnell tested their songwriting skills against one another on a regular basis by sorting through music apps and exchanging emails. This process spanned the years 2020 and 2021. โHarpoonโ is a catchy grunge rock track by Faint On Call that truly sounds nostalgic. Looking back at my youth, grunge played a large inspiration for me to stay calm during more anxious periods, and start learning the guitar too!
First and foremost, that brilliant gritty guitar solo at the end followed by an ambient piece sounds remarkable! I admire emotional endings to a tune. So, it felt much more memorable, and I just aimed to rewind and hear the track once again. The distortion tone of the guitar is a bit on the angle of heavy metal. However, within the bandโs perspective, as a whole, the sound is truly reminiscent of 90s grunge music.
The lead singer and the background vocals did a fantastic job of creating a cinematic atmosphere. It was immensely wholesome to hear! A bit spooky at times during transitions, the singerโs pieces sound a bit mysterious. All in all, the music from my youth is still going strong today with โHarpoonโ by Faint On Call, and I couldnโt be happier.
