Whimsical alt-pop artist Amy Aytchi turns up the storm volume with her debut concept album, Cyclosis. Written between Glasgow and Stirling and produced independently, the record weaves a dark fairy tale about a girl crushed by life who runs into a tempest, catching a mysterious illness that turns her into a home-wrecking tornado.
Blending late-80s dream-pop with modern folk textures, Aytchi confronts buried trauma, self-doubt, and estranged family ties, proving that sometimes you have to tear the roof off to truly flourish.
The album sets the scene with the eerie opener, “Harbinger,” featuring Callum Buick Dawson. Over gleaming, hypnotic music, Dawson’s husky voice delivers steady spoken word dripping with tension and intrigue. His delivery grows increasingly intense and passionate as sharp backing vocals cut through, while the expansive soundscape swells to pull you straight into the eye of the storm.
As the record rolls on, “Twister” shifts into ethereal territory, opening with glimmering wind chimes and haunting vocal breaths. Gentle, relaxing guitar melodies support Aytchi’s soft, melodious singing as her delicate voice soars and echoes across the sonic expanse, only for thumping drums to crash in midway to shake things up.
Finishing on a high note, “Weather Forcaster – 2026 Cyclosis Edition” pairs hard-hitting drums with relaxing strumming, giving Aytchi’s high, soaring vocals plenty of space to shine.
All in all, Amy Aytchi hits a home run with Cyclosis, delivering an inventive, atmospheric masterpiece that blows the competition away.
