The Newport News-born, Bay Area-based rapper, entrepreneur and mother turns her latest single, “Who Said That?” into a slick statement of self-belief, challenging the tired idea that women must choose between ambition, family and authenticity. Released July 30, 2026, the track is less a conventional flex than a confident reminder that success hits differently when you built the whole thing yourself.
A warm horn rhythm sets the foundation, weaving around deep bass and deliberately slow-paced beats. Then Yaz’s husky, low-register voice slides in with a smug, sassy delivery that makes every bar feel like a raised eyebrow. Her punchlines are catchy without losing their bite, and the production leaves enough breathing room for her personality to take centre stage. The groove may move at a measured pace, but Yaz sounds completely in control of it.
There is plenty of swagger here, but the track has substance underneath the shine. Yaz raps about self-made success and the symbolic crown she has earned, turning the imagery into a broader statement about independence. Her confidence comes across as someone who has already done the work and has no interest in pretending otherwise.
That perspective carries extra weight considering the life behind the music. As the founder of House of Yaz, a luxury lifestyle brand centred on handcrafted crowns and empowerment, Yaz has built a business while raising four daughters, maintaining her marriage and pursuing a music career.
“Who Said That?”’s early playlist traction and praise for Yaz’s flow, delivery and production suggest the message is already travelling. But even without the receipts, the song stands firmly on its own.
