“The Funny Part” by Down South Pepper Band is cognizant of the small things in life that make life worthwhile, but most of us are pacing in life so much so that we don’t even acknowledge what we have. What’s worse, we criticize it.
Down South Pepper Band shows us what it’s like to have gratitude in our lives with the archetype of an “old, tired, grey-bearded man sitting at the corner playing old-time country songs” who will “play it one more time” when you throw him a dime. The band portrays that it’s all about loving what you do.
“The Funny Part” is straight out of country with its mid-tempo, melodious tune. Though Down South Pepper Band fleshes out in Norway, they make you feel like you are in the heart of the American countryside with their raw Americana and country music. The track begins with a fun and funky guitar riff that makes the song so upbeat. The twang in the guitar and the jingle from the cymbals with the drum carry the joyous rhythm.
With Rune Nyby on the vocals, the harmonies come out sounding even more playful, with a rich and full sound that engages you from the beginning with the mockery and derision in his voice. When you watch the music video, it’s even more apparent, with his animated expressions curating a “funny” ambiance as he sings in the midst of a snowy backdrop. Often trying out funny gimmicks by making a fool out of himself, Rune turns the music video into a comforting and engaging spectacle.
