One-man army, POINT3NINE has released his illest record to date, this November 22 with The iLLEST.
The opener, “immortality” surprises us. It features a drum beating down with a hooky rhythm, making you surrender to its repetitive lockdown while the guitar riffs and drifts lazily. The muffled vintage, jittery spoken word with deep timbre vocals deliver a spittingly sharp and poetic vocal tirade. The lines like “Nothing is too vile” jut the track’s edginess out in the open.
Beginning with a suspenseful and discoidal high-pitched noise, we have our most anticipatory track amongst the 13 tracks simply because of the title: “The iLLEST.” The titular track quickly builds an immersive atmosphere. The song carries on as the suspenseful and erratic cycle ensues while cymbals come crashing, and drums hit the ground with bullet-like force. The man in the voiceover hoarsely states: “I have chosen the 4 messengers of death…”
The final and 13th track, “illusion of truth,” is hazy and nostalgic with its glitching buzzes and noisy tunes combined with high guitar strumming. The whimsical atmosphere is heightened by the vintage radio-like voiceover introduces paradoxical concepts of truth. The lyrics, such as “You think that you are seeing the true/ then what you are seeing is not a true one.” The album wraps up while making us question everything we know as it rolls to its final seconds. The 2 minutes seem like an enormous eternity.
