The Myth by Jodi Heights: Review
GOD DAMN, what a song by Jodi Heights, what a song! ‘The Myth’ is a jazzy, funky, and extremely moving track by Jodi. The piano rhythm reminds me of ‘Hit the Road Jack’ by American Soul legend Ray Charles. I’m telling you, Jodi Heights is on the way to becoming a legend herself. Everything in the song just screams attitude and promise. The trumpet and saxophone duets and rhythm attachments to the track just add more flair and are an absolute joy to hear.
Jodi’s singing chops are very impressive, and her lyrical theme is quite thoughtful. The concept of ‘The Myth’ talks about the wealth gap in our society. She tells a soulful tale that exists within every culture. Also, the big band genre of her music adds a perfect twist to the mix of the song’s meaning and melody. Her singing throughout the song was very intriguing, especially at the very end when she lets out a long melodic scream. At that point, I was completely awestruck. The sound of ‘The Myth’ reminds me of old music dating back to New Orleans, especially in the 1940s.
Jodi’s thoughts on her song were about the wealth gap in the United States. According to her, the disparity of different periods contributed to the Great Depression, hence she concluded that the song’s musical aesthetic would speak about the glory days just before the catastrophe came knocking. ‘The Myth’ aims to highlight the underappreciated benefits of hardworking people and make light of the situation as a whole.
