Daniel de Boer’s EP The Turnaround is a rich, multicultural acoustic pop offering infused with electronic textures and global rhythms. Written and produced largely in Berlin alongside producer Shakthi Prasad, the six-track project features a diverse cast of musicians from around the world, from Russia to Palestine, this diversity pulses through every beat and melody. The record opens with “Keep You Close,” a dreamy soundscape that unfolds like a sun-drenched morning. The track begins with a shimmering fade-in, inviting the listener into a dazzling haze of warmth and light. De Boer’s vocals are soft and airy, floating above the instrumentation with a layered, almost distorted texture that gives the impression of emotion struggling to break through—a voice wrapped in mist, yearning for clarity.
“No Longer Belong Here” picks up the pace with a cool, laid-back groove. The percussion from Ahmad Aljarrah and Tim Breel, along with Vitor Carvalho’s spirited saxophone, making the music catchy and full of movement. De Boer’s relaxed vocal delivery makes the song feel intimate and singable, while the horn solo in the bridge lifts the track into a burst of joy and celebration.
“The Turnaround”, the EP’s title track, draws listeners in with a compelling guitar riff by Bruno Fidelis and an inviting second-person lyrical address. The sense of dialogue and emotional exchange in this song, fueled by De Boer’s storytelling tone and a beat that keeps the rhythm tight and immersive.
The Turnaround is a global conversation. Rooted in acoustic sensibilities but branching into a multitude of genres and influences, Daniel de Boer’s EP bridges cultures, styles, and hearts through sound. Listen to it on Spotify.
