They Call me Old Man by JUNK: Review
JUNK’s musical skill is as terrific as ever in their funky hip-hop tune “They Call me Old Man.” This fantastic melody features eccentric rap lyrics covered with a tasty melodic aura of saxophone, bass, and beats. Listening to the song is such a thrill, and is captivating from the very get-go.
“They Call me Old Man” has such an exciting hook that I can’t seem to back away from the replay button. The narrative especially is such a work of art and a little bit comedic at times too. This overall enables the charm of the song and allows a strong resonance to be in place. Aside from that, the instrumentation has a distinct layer that sparked my intrigue. The rapid saxophone sequence is such a nice essence of sweet jazz that surprisingly blends with the hip-hop segments. Furthermore, keeping the track’s core grounded is a deep bass arrangement. The tone’s a little sharp and follows the tropes of classic funk. However, due to its treble-induced nature, the instrument’s depth feels wicked to hear in this hip-hop fusion.
JUNK’s songwriting essence is hypnotic. Primarily because of the themes explored in the track, which are at times dark, and at times witty, and nevertheless add to the melody’s hook. With that in mind, I believe “They Call me Old Man” is destined to be a bonafide hit, especially with fans of the hip-hop and funk scene.
