Moon Age’s latest single, “Time is Running Out,” is a shimmering blast of ‘80s nostalgia wrapped in a fresh, modern groove. From the moment the track kicks in, you’re hit with a funky bassline and crisp synth melodies that feel like they’ve been plucked straight from a neon-lit dream. The beats are tight, smacking with precision, keeping the energy up while the melodies weave effortlessly around them.
Then there’s the vocal magic. Delivered with a breathy, ethereal ease, the refrain “time is running out” lingers like an ASMR whisper in your ear, gentle but urgent, light but soaked in meaning. The husky delivery glides through the track, blending seamlessly with the dreamy production. And just when you think you’ve got the song figured out, in come the swelling strings, with a rich, multi-layered elegance that elevates the whole thing to another level.
It’s no surprise that Moon Age, aka Stockport duo Matt Hanson and Bryn Shipperlee, has crafted such a tight, polished sound, despite recording this gem in an attic studio. Their DIY approach doesn’t hold them back; if anything, it gives the track a raw authenticity that stands out in today’s overproduced pop landscape. Drawing inspiration from Tame Impala, Mark Ronson, and Khruangbin, they’ve nailed that sweet spot between vintage and modern, nostalgic and forward-thinking.
“Time is Running Out” is a mood. A sunset drive, a last dance before the lights go up, a reminder that moments slip away faster than we realize. With this second release, Moon Age proves they’re on a roll and you need to catch on to them right now.
