Too much by Charade: Review
Charade, an alias for Connor- is a London based artist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. He draws inspiration from alternative rock bands like Greenday, heavier bands like Metallica before branching off more into indie-rock music like Arctic Monkeys. Charade’s latest release ‘Too Much’ is a result of experimentation at home. The song has been produced by Rees Bloomfield, and mastered at Metropolis Studios.
‘Too Much’ by charade is a masterful display of working around a simple 5-note bassline. The anvil hit at the start of the song will take listeners by surprise before the bassline draws them in. Clever use of beats panned left and right with use of dynamics will make it sound like the percussions are revolving inside your head. The eerie and “flute-ish” synth complemented by vocal phrases mixed and used as effects makes sure there is no blank space to fill up in the song. It creates an enthralling and cinematic atmosphere. The song contains very little lyrics but just enough to convey the core message- the artist’s realization that life is too short for us to get bogged down in our thoughts and not live it to the fullest, a perception induced by the lockdown during the pandemic.
Connor had the idea of ‘Charade’ in 2014 after breaking up with his band. He has been experimenting and producing by himself ever since, and ‘Too Much’ is just the start of the artist’s long and successful journey.
