โTrue Romanticโ by Orah & The Kites is a slow-burn shimmer of sincerity in a jaded world. With its glistening dream pop textures and lush emotional undercurrent, the track is both a sonic and spiritual evolution for the indie outfitโethereal, yes, but with a backbone. Opening with gentle waves of synth and a steady, catchy pulse, the track builds a mesmerizing atmosphere like sunlight filtering through water. Then Orahโs voice floats in: tender, gentle, melodic. Thereโs a sweetness to it, but also clarity, like someone whoโs been bruised by love, but not broken.
The production balances grace and grit. As the song moves into the bridge, the instrumental picks up urgency, and her vocals soar seamlessly, shifting from soft reverie to expansive emotional release. The harmonies from Teagyn Gracey and Jaimie De Klerk swell like a rising tide, enveloping the listener in the trackโs emotional pull.
Lyrically, โTrue Romanticโ is a standout. Rooted in real-life late-night conversation, it asks a question so many modern hearts are haunted by: When did we stop believing in real love? Instead of offering neat answers, the song leans into that liminal space between hope and doubt, cynicism and longing. And yet, in its final moments, it lands firmly on hope. โLove waits on shores for waters to still, a wave I caught and now youโre here. Iโll wait.โ
This dreamy indie track actually manages to rebel against the hollow, swipe-right era of fleeting connection. โTrue Romanticโ is a promising preview of whatโs to come from Orah & The Kites in 2025, and a reminder that sincerity, when done right, still hits the hardest.
