Galway artist KDX isn’t holding back on his latest single, “ULIE.” Released this April 4, this alternative rock anthem gets anyone ever burned by deceit reeling to the suppressed anger.
“ULIE” is an emotional outburst born from personal pent-up anger and frustration released in music. The track opens with a surprising juxtaposition—shimmering, dreamy guitar chimes that lull you into a false sense of security. Then, KDX’s voice pierces, rich and deep but thick with emotion through the music. The trap beats kick in, glitchy and insistent, mirroring the rising anger in the lyrics.
KDX seamlessly shifts between singing and rapping. His verses are delivered with a sharp, angry edge. Meanwhile, the layered vocals behind bring raw energy, a controlled fury, and a scream fueled by emotional exhaustion. They gnarl and snarl underneath, pulling out all the suppressions and getting as vulnerable as possible.
The influence of XXXTentacion is undeniably evident. KDX channels a similar angst-ridden energy. He opens up, drawing you with the soothing music and engaging you with the beats and the dynamics. This is as balanced as it gets, which makes the music enjoyable in all circumstances. With this piece of music, he also comes out promoting self-expression.
“ULIE” has this vulnerability and a sense of hurt that demonstrates the catharsis that comes from letting go. Listen to KDX’s latest single to find how the most powerful emotions come out unexpectedly and unfiltered.
