Jeremy Aaron gets blue in his latest single, “Under My Skin.” Released on March 22, the ballad introspects on the pandemic uncertainty and constant worry.
The song opens with softly plucked guitars and shimmering synths, getting contemplative and slow straight out. Aaron’s vocals enter with a haunting beauty and a gentle lament, delicately singing, “I feel blue,” with a haunting ebb and flow. With resignation and acceptance burning at the same end, the instrumentation gradually builds, with Ethan Cohen’s drums beating through. The music groans with a suspenseful depth underneath the instruments, getting tuneful as it goes. The swelling and wailing strings midway through the track act like a dramatic flourish enhancing the song’s melancholic atmosphere.
As the song progresses, Aaron’s vocals become more emotive with lyrics straightforward in their simplicity, with each word carrying a weight of vulnerability and introspection. In the bridge, Aaron’s voice soars and echoes, intensifying the emotional depth of the song and laying bare his innermost thoughts and feelings.
In terms of production, Aaron did all the instruments, except the drums over Jann Klose’s and his bedroom studio. The resulting sound is intimate yet expansive, with each instrument adding depth and texture to the overall composition.
Listen to Jeremy Aaron’s “Under My Skin” to confront your emotions, find solace in the act of listening and introspection, and notice Jeremy Aaron’s talent as both a songwriter and musician blooming effortlessly in his music.
