Berlin-based musician Lawrence Timoni dives deep into the haunting underbelly of modern life with his evocative new single โVelvet Bite,โ released on October 31, 2025. Written, performed, and produced entirely by Timoni in his Berlin studio, the track fuses indie rock, chamber psych, and dark electronic textures. Inspired by artists like Radiohead, Foals, and Ben Howard, Timoni utilizes Halloween and its darkness to symbolise our own descent to darkness, looking past seasonal theatrics to expose the real ghosts of power, inequality, and deception lurking beneath everyday life.
The song opens with intricate, serpentine guitar plucks that twist around each other before sharp, writhing strings slide in like whispers in a dark corridor. Just as the tension starts to build, the beats drop, pulsing, catchy, and alive, driving the music forward with a hypnotic urgency. The strings wail as if haunted, bending and spiraling in dissonant beauty while Timoniโs calm, composed vocals emerging magnetically still. He sings rebelliously, laced with both detachment and conviction, singing through shadows as harmonies rise behind him like waves crashing in a spectral sea.
As the track progresses, the energy swells with the once-subdued vocals blooming into passion, cutting through the layered production with intensity and heart. Even in its uneasiness, it brings comfort as the sounds come alive and hits home, like the ghost of our monsters breathing through the wires. Itโs at once haunting and head-bobbing, unsettling yet irresistible.
โVelvet Biteโ creates a sรฉance where protest meets poetry taking the best of Halloween vibes. With its cinematic production, catchy, spectral soundscape, and eerie emotional pull, โVelvet Biteโ is a chilling anthem for our haunted times.
