Las Vegas-based composer and video director Rene Sagnelli has never been interested in staying inside neat musical boxes. Drawing inspiration from everyone from Beethoven to Dream Theater, he has coined his own lane, “cinematic metal,” a sprawling fusion of orchestral grandeur, progressive metal complexity, and dystopian storytelling. His latest single, “VITA EVANESCENCE,” serves as an ambitious introduction to a larger cyberpunk narrative while standing tall as a gripping piece of music in its own right.
The song is the culmination of ideas that first began taking shape two decades ago. Fragments of melodies and arrangements sat dormant for years before being rebuilt and refined alongside mixer and collaborator Ivan Rodriguez. The song sounds startlingly contemporary, tapping into modern anxieties surrounding artificial intelligence, technology, and humanity’s growing disconnection from itself.
The track opens with fuzzy, grinding guitars and slow, deliberate drums that immediately establish an atmosphere of unease. Then the vocals enter, shifting constantly between whispery menace and full-throated anguish. One moment, he sounds like a warning voice hidden in the machine; the next, he becomes its victim. It’s this dynamic vocal performance that gives the song much of its dramatic weight.
Musically, “VITA EVANESCENCE” plays like the soundtrack to a collapsing digital empire. Crushing riffs collide with cinematic textures, while breakdowns, choirs, synthesizers, and soaring guitar passages create an experience that feels larger than life. The song unfolds like a dystopian film scene by scene, drawing listeners deeper into its dark vision.
The title translates roughly to “losing life force,” and that theme permeates every second. Beneath the science-fiction imagery lies a broader reflection on monotony, distraction, and the systems that quietly drain human energy. Fittingly, both the song’s production and accompanying visuals were created entirely with AI, blurring the line between warning and participation.
Bold, theatrical, and unapologetically ambitious, “VITA EVANESCENCE” is less a single than the opening chapter of a much larger saga.
