Nero Simon and the Sunsetters came in like a crashing tide, delivering their newest album, “WAVELAND,” set to release officially on March 15, 2024. Rooted in Georgia, this folk rock band blazingly captured the sound of the coast on their second album, giving you the feeling of a summer vacation all year round.
“Sail On Silver Girl” opens the album with the sound of pelicans chirping and crashing waves, which immediately hits us with the nostalgia of building sandcastles on the beach and smelling the salty ocean water. Each intricate guitar strumming can be heard clearly, layered with feel-good vocals; this song is about waiting for a girl who has been metaphorically out in the sea for too long to “sail back home.”
“Long Way Around” captures the essence of feeling the soft sand against your bare feet, the beauty of the moon reflected in the crashing ocean, and being hit with a refreshing summer breeze. This track will make you think of a particular person with whom you want to take a long walk along the shoreline.
“Neon Sunset” blends harmonious vocal music with the steady rhythm of the guitar. This track is laced with intense nostalgia yet beautifully captures the feeling of “living a daydream” with a lover who makes loving “beautiful like a marigold.” ‘WAVELAND” comes to a close with “Baker Street,” with lyrics dripping with melancholy and high upbeat trumpet-like sounds, which is a stark contrast to the vocals.
“WAVELAND” will doubtlessly have you thirsting for more summertime bangers.
