The Graceland Conspiracy arrives with a sound that might catch longtime followers of Colin Crooks off guard. Previously part of PBR Streetgang and currently playing with Belfast’s Bad Noise Monster, Crooks has traded much of his more abrasive musical history for atmosphere, space and texture on “We Are Chaos.” The 2026 remaster of the older track brings together Edelle McMahon, Paul Wilkinson, Gary Taylor, Jon McKinley and Crooks for something dreamy, shadowy and strangely beautiful.
The song begins cautiously, with piano moving gently and steadily through a warm, slow opening. It does not rush to announce itself. Instead, the arrangement gradually sinks deeper, allowing layers of immersion to gather until ethereal harmonies begin soaring above the music. McMahon’s high, shimmering voice becomes the centre of that haze, floating over deep bass and thumping drums while tiny glimmers of piano continue flickering underneath.
The rhythm gives the dreaminess a pulse, while the bass keeps everything grounded. Wilkinson’s guitar and McKinley’s brass add further colour to an arrangement that feels expansive without becoming overcrowded.
That atmosphere fits the idea behind the track perfectly. “We Are Chaos” celebrates the disorder surrounding us in an ever-changing universe, moving through images of stars, moonlight, forests, harvests, rain, waves, and heartbeats before turning toward funerals, whirlpools, deserts, grief, and cosmic darkness. Beauty and destruction sit side by side, and the repeated declaration that we are chaos becomes less a warning than an acceptance of what existence actually looks like.
At the end of the day, “We Are Chaos” feels like watching the universe breathe through a dream-pop haze.
