What I Mean To You by RYAL: Review

Singer/keyboardist Jacque Ryal and producer Aaron Nevezie are the creative forces behind the alternative synth/electric project known as RYAL. They greeted their fans and followers in 2022 with new music, and the most recent release from the duo is the single “What I Mean To You.”

Jacque Ryal sounds so sweet and touching in the song, and the vocal harmonies highlight the gentleness of her performance even more. The verses feature a catchy little tune repeated throughout that not only draws attention to itself but also lends the track a lighthearted and glimmering atmosphere that is developed further in the second half of the song. Solid drumming from Dan Rieser and groovy bass from John Davis round out the song’s instrumental offerings. Jacque admitted that she enjoys contemplating heavy relationship situations against a bouncy and upbeat backdrop, which she does beautifully. Music that shared the depth of the topics, such as “Red” by Taylor Swift and “Make My Bed” by King Princess, inspired the writing process. It recognizes both the insecurities and struggles that exist in a relationship as well as the heartwarming, sincere hand reaching out for you in the midst of them. Although it takes a lot of effort, love is well worth the effort that is put into it.
