Ipoh-born singer-songwriter Boey is back with a haunting new single, โWhen Will It End?โ released on August 15, 2025. Having already made waves this year with his third studio album, the Margate-based artist now shifts gears to confront the state of the world head-on. Rooted in indie pop but steeped in folk-inspired textures, the track is born out of helplessness, shaped by the sight of endless wars and innocent lives lost. Boey is asking the question we all have been since the beginning of time, when does it stop?
From the first few bars, the song pulls you in with slow, haunting guitar strums that echo in a hollow room. Boeyโs voice enters delicately, all lightness and fragility, floating high in a head voice that drifts into falsetto, in his way of conveying the compassion and empathy, of making vulnerability sound like resistance, because when everyoneโs becoming desensitized, he stays soft, like thatโs the most courageous move one could make in this exploitative, capitalistic time.
As the verses unfurl, you hear the beats start to creep in the background, subtle at first, then steadily dropping heavier with each moment, like a pulse counting down. By the time the chorus hits, the rhythmic strumming sharpens, almost urgent, cutting through Dumiโs atmospheric guitar layers. The production cradles Boeyโs voice, letting the mix breathe with Michael Tjanakaโs clean, spacious mastering.
โWhen Will It End?โ is a call to action disguised as a soft hymn, one that asks us to actโwhether thatโs marching, donating, or simply refusing to look away.
