2mindsas1 arrive like two weathered mapmakers of indie rock, as Rory Flynn’s lifetime of songwriting meets Yannis Masouras’ post-Sony production instincts, and out of that collision comes a brittle, honest single, “Where Do We Go From Here?.” The song puts you in the middle of the dilemma of whether to stay and fight or walk away, with the economy that makes you feel the weight of every syllable.
It opens on a chiming, hypnotic guitar that loops like a memory you can’t shake, as the deep bass sneaks in and gives the track a low, insistent gravity. Rory’s husky, worn but lucid voice delivers vulnerability as the sort of singer who lets the cracks show and thereby makes the whole thing more alive. Percussion jingles and thumps in steady steps, keeping the momentum human and forward-leaning rather than frantic. He sings, “We take and return, making bridges burn…” The refrain—“Where do we go from here?”—lands as a raw, communal question rather than a rhetorical flourish that you find yourself asking in the car, in the shower, on repeat.
Then the violin swells, and that’s where the song earns its heart. The strings thaw the space, turning tension into tenderness as they rise and spread, cushioning lines. The record nods to the widescreen grandeur of their stated influences (think Suede, Editors, and The Killers) while staying intimate—big sounds, small rooms.
In short, “Where Do We Go From Here?” is a tightly wound single that balances melancholy and melodic payoff. Give it a listen when you’re at a crossroads—the song knows the route better than you think.
