Worcester-born, London-based 22-year-old singer, songwriter, and producer, E S, delves into dark R&B and alternative pop with her latest single, “Window.” E S crafts a chilling narrative that explores illicit obsession and desire. Inspired by the Netflix series YOU, the track flips the script by portraying the stalking victim enjoying the stalking. With intriguing lyrics that toy with justifying the stalker’s fantasy, “Window” walks a fine line between unsettling and captivating.
Produced entirely at home before being polished by Paul Norris at Metropolitan, “Window” features an intricate blend of pianos, mallets, acoustic and 808 basses, and more than 40 vocal layers. The track opens with throbbing, hard beats, deep bass and a devilishly brooding rhythm that sets an ominous, suspenseful tone.
E S’s husky, lower-range vocals build up a story, imbued with a haunting intensity. The chorus—where she croons “I wanna see you looking through my window”—is echoed by ghostly harmonies that amplify the song’s unsettling vibe. Meanwhile, a subtle tapping beat evokes a sense of creeping dread, as though danger is just around the corner.
Naturally, it turns out that the neurodivergent artist is influenced by Melanie Martinez and Rei Ami. And so can be heard from her similarly distinctive, bold, and unapologetically dark music.
“Window,” her third release following “Sweet Tooth” and “Red,” has already garnered critical acclaim, with her Spotify streams climbing past 20,000 for her earlier singles. From performing at the Commonwealth Games to gracing London’s Amex Unsigned stage, E S is carving her place in the music scene.
Check out “Window” and look out for live shows coming up very soon in the coming year.
