Instrumentals can be insanely transformative, however we bet you have never heard anything like 2020 by Roxercat. 2020 is the 6th track in the EP Pearls. Roxercat is a trio of Price Jones the vocalist, Stan Lassiter, the guitarist and Bill Francis, the bassist.
2020 starts with a solo flute-like rhythm mimicking a vast open space with curved lanes leading somewhere ancient, but the only place we go is to an acoustic guitar bloom and cymbals crashing in like waves on our vastness.
The opening rhythm then combines with the guitar and evokes a sonic peace that resembles an imagery of beaches, pines and sandy dunes altogether in the back of our minds. In no sooner than a minute does heavy drums drop, breaking our psychedelic peace and motioning in a psychedelic rock atmosphere with guitar riffs and a seamless bassline. The beating of the drums and the cymbals smash harder and we fall into another mental state.
The guitar rhythms continually change bringing us to a different path everytime we switch them. At one point the drums stop, the guitars grind an addictive and groovy pattern. The cymbals are also hit after a few seconds, and a husky soft female voice emerges from the background singing: I think I am losing my mind, thinking about you. This is the point we reach a conclusion on our perspectives on the voyage of this instrumental masterpiece. Itโs about 2020. 2020โs about the pandemic.
Price Jones recounts 2020 as a reflection of her own journey when her 2020 began successfully but was halted by the pandemic and shattered by losses and later comprehending itโs a part of life.
