No Friend by Agent Envy: Review

Agent Envy’s track “No Friend” is quite a stellar performance pertaining to alternative rock. The gritty melodic passages filled with nostalgic guitars, and the moody essence of alt-rock vocals is just what I needed to reminisce of the good old days from my youth.

The San Diego-based artist and producer’s song is every bit rock and roll fitting to blend in for a modern sound. When she started singing, especially the higher notes, a wave hit me and the vibe was sensational. As a youngin’ hearing alternative female vocalists such as Amy Lee from

Evanescence struck a chord within me. It made me appreciate the diversity of music, and the same is present with Agent Envy’s track. It isn’t just the vocal chops that steal the show, but the solid guitar takes as well. The distorted tone is raw and brings out that overwhelming sense of anger that every rocker proudly expresses. There’s a distinct darkness emanating from the song, and they blended excellent instrumentation to keep that balance in tune. Speaking of balance, I thoroughly enjoyed the bass riff representing the verse sections. Hats off to that, it had an interesting embellishment that connected experimentation with alt-rock at its finest.

Agent Envy’s musical expedition spans from their youth. Delving into singing, piano, and guitar lessons truly honed the musician’s craft. But also, musical theater was a part of the artist’s forte, and it clearly shows through the dramatic transitions within “No Friend.”
