A Day in the Labyrinth of a Psychedelic Mind by Bones:Dreaming : Album Review
This is a side project for Screaming Bones. Mike Ludwig is the leader of both projects. Mike uses a Moog Subharmonicon, Soma Lyra 8, Soma Ornament 8, Moog Cosmos, and Electro Harmonix and Strymon pedals to produce eerie and ambient guitar sounds. Each session is unique due to machine interaction. Artist and Soma instruments share a symbiotic relationship that is fundamental to their essence and ethos.
Mike views each recording session as an adventure due to the fact that the instrumentation is always different and the outcome is always a mystery. Instruments take on their own sounds, rhythms, and personalities when they are performed.
โA Day in the Labyrinth of a Psychedelic Mindโ is an outstanding work. There are sounds that resemble a conversation between machines. The dark ambient soundscapes transport the listener into the acoustic unknown; patterns and rhythms emerge, only to be lost in an electric crackling haze.
Mikeโs twisted, psychedelic mind conceived a new project called Bones: Dreaming. It is not uncommon for recording sessions to last indefinitely, with new sounds constantly being created. Occasionally, the recordings exceed 30 minutes but must be edited down to a more reasonable length later.
The album will guide listeners through a series of bizarre psychedelic soundscapes created primarily by machines conversing with one another, with minimal human participation. In a kaleidoscope of strange, dark ambient music, rhythms appear, reconnect, and disappear. Putting on headphones and keeping an open mind will help you become completely immersed in the album. Letโs unwind, close our eyes, and allow the music to carry our thoughts away.
