A Days Wait has released a new song called “Tongue Tied.” A song for those who can’t seem to put their sentiments into words.
We’ve all been there, believe it or not. You’ve finally worked up the guts to express yourself. The individual is standing directly in front of you. All that’s left for you to do now is open your mouth and speak. But you won’t be able to. The issue isn’t so much what to say as it is how to express it. And, well, you just wind up avoiding the subject entirely. It’s not because you’re afraid or anything; you just don’t know what to say.
Don’t worry, A Days Wait’s new song “Tongue Tied” understands what you’re going through. With its dreamy vocals and poppy, gently lo-fi accompaniment, Day Wave’s Jackson Phillips’ tune from the project’s Lifeline EP will undoubtedly fit that sense of not being able to say what you want to say.
Phillips’ production talents are just what the song requires, and despite the song’s abundance of rhythmic elements and vocals, it isn’t at all uncomfortable to listen to. If anything, this works in its favor, giving “Tongue Tied” a more dramatic vibe, as if our narrator is actually experiencing strong feelings about what they’ve lost.
The line “The gulf between us grows because I was so tongue-tied” from the song’s chorus is particularly powerful, demonstrating how damaging it is to allow pride and embarrassment stand in the way of what actually counts.
Although the narrator of this exquisite song is “Tongue Tied,” we should take this as a lesson. A lesson on saying whatever we feel when we have to, rather than waiting for the “perfect words” to come to us.
