Cotswolds-born rock outfit THIEVES dropped their new single โAscensionโ on June 27th, 2025, recorded at the legendary Treehouse Studiosโa space that has hosted everyone from Bullet for My Valentine and Busted to Sleep Token, Elbow, and The Maccabees. Formed back in 2014 by guitarist Conor Robertson, vocalist Matthew Cooper, and bassist Harrison Stanford, the band built its reputation on unpredictable riffs and raw intensity. With powerhouse drummer James Holley having joined earlier this year, THIEVES have sharpened their sound into a stormy mix of alt-rock, metal, and hard rock.
โAscensionโ is a defiant anthem aimed squarely at the modern obsession with polished surfaces. Where society demands seamless faรงades and flawless feeds, THIEVES come swinging with something jagged and honest. The track opens with buzzing, distorted riffs and chest-thumping drums before falling away into an ambient open, where Cooperโs deep, emotive vocal takes center stage. His delivery is steeped in melancholy, a simmering vulnerability that quickly shifts gears. Just as you settle into that space, the tension bursts wide open, as his voice vaults upward, full of angst and raw fire, while the guitars blaze and the drums crash like thunder.
The influence of bands like Alter Bridge, Normandie, and Deftones peeks through in flashes, yet THIEVES never sound derivative. Instead, they twist these inspirations into a sonic rebellion, brimming with paranoia and restless energy. โAscensionโ dismantles the gloss with a visceral soundtrack for misfits who see through the noise and crave something that resonates with lived chaos.
At just over four minutes, the single leaves a mark like a spark to dry tinder. Listen to โAscensionโ by THIEVES on Spotify.
