Azul by Azul Kechi: Review
Ever feel like when someone asks you to introduce yourself, you kinda freeze? No? Okay, just me then. All jokes aside, a great way to make an impression is through the power of melody. Meet Azul Kechi, and her delightful self-titled track “Azul”, an introspective number that will surely captivate you with her sweet swaying voice and some incredible jazz-infused instrumentation and greet you with this groovy rhythm that just oozes style.
“Azul” is one of those tracks where you’d just ask the bartender to play without wasting any time. I listened to the track without a thought in mind and was pleasantly surprised. Azul’s performance was filled with attitude and finesse. Her singing ability has such a nice flow and it’s filled with a rap-ish method that’ll put you at ease. I also truly admire the instrumentation sequences in the track, they incorporate a lot of intensity and work in cohesion with Azul’s melodic vocals. The guitar and bass in particular have an integral role and mix so well with Azul’s voice, that it feels criminal not to talk about it.
Opening up with a fresh coat of paint, Azul’s vivid presentation is brilliant and she never misses a beat. Celeste Okonkwo-Davies captures our hearts with her stage name Azul Kechi. She composed ‘Azul’ during the lockdown phase of the pandemic. Here, she signified the birth of her stage identity and alter persona. According to Celeste, the track depicts her transformative journey into a musician. It also serves as a potent introduction as she establishes herself in the music biz.
