Becoming Who I Was by Leonardo Barilaro: Review
Leonardo Barilaro, a pianist, composer, and aerospace engineer released the song “Becoming who I was” on November 14, 2022, which is three months after his space music was played onboard the International Space Station and broadcast to Earth. It is an instrumental track with a calming and peaceful vibe, and it is also about the journey we take toward increasing our self-awareness.
The various tracks on the piano merged with electronic sounds aid us to recall who we actually already were in our childhoods. In addition to this, he thinks back to his youth and the feeling that he was destined for greatness and out of the world, literally. A very calm and meditative state is acquired by the space piano music style.
The tune begins with a bluesy acoustic piano, which is then followed by a transition into beautiful sounds, and gradually, everything begins to fall into place. When the drums finally come in, the composition gets a little boost. It sounds and feels like one is floating in the sky with precious memories. The piano melodies that are connected with one another in an endless loop of the continued pattern are also extraordinary.
Mixed with abstract sounds, a soothing piano tone, and a hypnotic synth gives you the vibe of weightlessness in space. In some parts, there’s the vibe of old-school Nintendo or Sega games soundtracks. It is a peaceful and interesting composition to spend your afternoons with.
