Here’s a grunge rock EP that’s going to take you on a trip around the world—not in 90 days—just in a few minutes with its culturally diverse music.
The 4-track EP “Black or White” by the multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer, and songwriter Cagri Raydemir starts with a less grunge, chirpy acoustic guitar sound above a moody bass in his first track, “Canary in a Coal Mine.” Moving onto the next, “Undeniable Manifestation” has that ominous, psychic, exotic, and mystical rhythm that is often common with manifestations in general. And there is that ubiquitous heaviness with Cagri Raydemir’s stretched low-timbre voice, creating a spookish Edgar Allan Poe vibe…but in the musical scene. It’s more melancholic and sombre than grunge, though, with that guitar play. There are more instrumentals, like a trumpet, that just append to the atmosphere without any notice.
“False Certainty” is Cagri’s official entrance into the Indian and oriental music scene, bringing the Turkish cümbüs into his composition and diversifying his musical design. Because it all seems like a masterful design, to me at least, to be honest. His production skills are all intricately and meticulously placed for excellence. And that’s understandable, knowing Cagri Raydemir’s track record of 12 albums and 6 EPs, he’s practically a virtuoso in the field now.
Consummating to the last act of “Black or White,” we are brought to “Justifiable Hands to Play,” a grunge rock track that dramatically unfolds with a blues ambiance showcasing Cagri’s fine orchestral arrangement. It’s quite symptomatic of a swan song, with its softness and vulnerability. But these attributes are what the EP is comprised of, more or less. “Black or White” by Cagri Raydemir is quite the thematic masterpiece for any music buff and is craving for your attention.
