Blake Morgan Releases A New Album “Violent Delights.”
Violent Delights, the highly anticipated fifth album from indie music iconoclast Blake Morgan, is currently available through ECR Music Group. The New Yorker, who is also an artist, producer, multi-instrumentalist, label owner, and activist, is currently enjoying the critical and economic successes of his recent breakout singles and music videos.
“I wanted to make a new record that would evoke a time in music when melodic
Rock-’n-Roll hooks weren’t a vice, when optimistic, triumphant love songs with bite
poured out of the car stereo,” says Morgan. “If The Police’s album ‘Ghost in the
Machine’ and AC/DC’s ‘Back In Black’ had a kid together, that ‘kid’ would be my new
record.” – Blake Morgan
The title of the album is taken from a phrase in Romeo and Juliet’s Act 2, Scene 6, where Friar Lawrence warns the young couple that their emotions may cost them their lives: “These violent delights have violent endings.” This is Morgan’s first album that is mostly made up of love songs, marking a change for the musician. I’ve written breakup songs in the past, but never a love song. Even the terms “love” and “heart” had never before appeared in a song. Maybe being finally in love helped me utter those phrases convincingly.
The release of Violent Delights comes after the artist achieved numerous successes, including his record-breaking concert series in New York (a six-year run of sold-out performances at New York City’s Rockwood Music Hall), over 200 performances across 160,000 miles of touring, and 20 albums he’s produced and recorded with A-list artists since his own last solo-artist album release. From Lesley Gore to Lenny Kravitz, Morgan has produced and recorded some of the biggest names in music. Morgan produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered the album at Valiant Recording NYC, the Greenwich Village recording studio he’s owned and run since 2002. Morgan sings and plays all the instruments on this new song aside from the drum kit.
Additionally, Morgan founded and serves as president of the independent, international music label ECR Music Group. The New York Times, Billboard Magazine, CNN, Newsweek, Variety, The Hill, NME, The Huffington Post, and The Guardian often publish his thoughts, comments, and editorials on music.
He frequently gives lectures, most notably at Berklee College of Music, his alma mater, The Georgetown University Law Center, New York Law School, Syracuse University, California State University, and The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University. As the creator of the #IRespectMusic movement, he has frequently traveled to Capitol Hill to advocate for the rights of music creators in the digital age.
Violent Delights, Blake Morgan’s most recent album, is accessible across all platforms.
