Blissy by Vandal of Hearts: Review
James St. Thomas, The Mastermind behind the British alt/art-rock act Vandal of Heart sings an ode to music in the lead single “Blissy” from the album Bad Dream.
Vandal of Hearts’ Blissy is a self-admitted love letter or ode to the power of music itself. Somewhat distorted but immensely passionate, Vandal of Hearts explores all the positive but also comes to terms with the reality that music cannot, by itself, so something like cure us of private illness for it has its limitations. He describes the way music may empower us, can agitate us, and even inspire us. The way music does this outweighs its limitations and what makes it one of the most beautiful and powerful medium or tool in this world.
The composition is without a doubt a standout. It starts off sounding like a classic rock tune but soon builds up a more atmospheric sound. This guitar driven song accompanied by James’ smooth dynamic vocals consistently seem to develop and grow in itself until the electrifying guitar solo makes way for the opening riff to wrap up the song again. Opening up an album with absolute class and style!
