Teddy Clarke’s latest single, “Blue Tablet,” gets behind unrequited love intertwined with addiction. Co-written by Clarke and the production duo Analog & Digital (Ben and Joel Bogen), “Blue Tablet” reflects the frustration of feeling “never enough” for someone who prioritizes their addictions over relationships.
“Blue Tablet” opens with an atmospheric tension, led by sparse, dramatic synths crafted by Ben Bogen. Clarke’s voice enters in a low, moody register, giving the song an immediate anticipation. The steady, pulsating drums gradually build the intensity, setting the stage for Joel Bogen’s gritty guitar to break through, giving the song an angrier, urgent tone. Clarke’s vocals get upfront and impassioned, capturing the tumultuous message at the heart of the song, and the catchy, dark guitar riffs add weight to every line, bringing rawness and unpredictability to the mix.
Reflecting on the song, Clarke shared that this song was inspired by a friend’s unhealthy romantic partner who was better off getting high than loving them. This personal, empathetic depth to “Blue Tablet” shows the compassion and insight that Clarke carries to have felt how they must have felt and produced something so touching with that painful space.
Known for his powerful live shows at venues like Camden Assembly, Clarke has gained a loyal following and recognition from BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio. If you like what you hear, stay tuned with Teddy Clarke.
