Bluey Orange by Jakliu: Review
The percussive, tender instrumental track “Bluey Orange,” by the Dublin-based self-taught instrumentalist. Listening to this gives me a strange recollection of my childhood. It takes me back to the Nokia days when I accidentally found a cellphone ringtone list and jammed hard to it.
The track kicks off calmly with hip-hop-style percussion, subtle VST synthesizers, and minimal vocal chops and then transitions to dreamy bell synths. This might be the major reason why this takes me back. Because now the world of EDM is ruled by heavy waves and intense beats and basslines. It’s also why this might keep lingering in your mind the longest because Jakliu has organic, uplifting energy within this chill mix. It’s easy to get hooked within the first 10 seconds of it, and the, albeit repeating, tones will never bore you out!
If Ross Gellar from Friends had done it by channeling his passion with his keyboard, I imagine this is what it would probably sound like. With “Bluey Orange,” which is full of ecstatic textures, inviting ambiance, and gloriously breezy moments, Jakliu is tapping into a unique territory as it gives away that his head might be swimming with brilliant new concepts. With his fresh take and clean production, there’s no doubt in my mind, that he’s marking himself as one of the most unique artists on the rise.
