If you’re in the mood for something that feels like sunlight pouring through your window on a slow, dreamy morning, Le Concorde’s latest single, “Morning by Morning,” from the upcoming album Second Mansions, is the tune to wrap yourself in. Stephen Becker — the brain and beating heart behind Le Concorde — serves up another slice of poetic sophistipop, like a soft-focus daydream, sticking in your bones.
Right from the get-go, sparkling guitar strums shimmer like dew on the grass, giving the track an ethereal glow. Then the steady and inviting drums kick in, laying the perfect rhythm for Becker’s soulful, tender voice. He sings not just with joy, but with a kind of ecstatic clarity, as if he’s waking up to love for the very first time, again and again. Its infectiousness wraps you in warmth before you even know you’re smiling.
The lyrics float along with romantic imagery: seagull cries, wild horses, silver pinecones. There’s something so honest in him singing, “All your unseen beings and mine / Are now joining forces,” showing the process of something sacred happening as two souls truly become one. Somewhere between your own ocean and someone else’s moonmind, you realize this isn’t just a love song. It’s a universe of connection folded into three-and-a-half minutes.
The melody slides in joyfully at the end, dancing over those thumping drums and the soft hum of backing vocals. “Morning by Morning” feels like a modern classic in disguise, polished to perfection with help from music greats like Roger Joseph Manning Jr., Brendan Power, and Jon Auer.
