Jacksonville Christian Hip-Hop artist Bobby Real Montgomery turns hardship into testimony on his hopeful rap track, “Overcame the Struggle.” The song earned Montgomery a place as a 2025 International Songwriting Competition semi-finalist, putting him among the top 10% of participating songwriters worldwide and making him the only Christian Hip-Hop artist from Jacksonville to reach that stage. But strip away the accolade, and the song still stands firmly on its own: this is music built to remind people that difficult chapters do not have to be the final one.
Musically, “Overcame the Struggle” takes a refreshingly restrained approach. Relaxing, melodic production creates a cool backdrop that leaves plenty of breathing room for the rapper to take centre stage. That works especially well for a song whose message depends on actually hearing what is being said.
Then comes the chorus, smooth and hypnotic, returning like a reassuring mantra. Its chill repetition gives the track an almost meditative quality, while the verses snap sharply into focus. The rap delivery is crisp, rapid and remarkably articulate, with each word landing cleanly.
At its heart, the song is about surviving difficult circumstances and finding enough faith to keep moving. Montgomery’s Christian perspective never feels detached from the struggle; instead, it becomes the source of its optimism. Having been recognised from more than 15,000 ISC entries, “Overcame the Struggle” carries an encouraging reminder that perseverance can turn pain into purpose—and sometimes, making it through is itself the victory.
