Bracelets by Chisom: Album Review
Hip-hop and afro-pop combine for a lovely fusion in Chisom’s fiery album, “Bracelets.” It’s a fantastic record with east-coast rap bars intertwined with Caribbean cool rhythms. Ultimately, it’s a blend of genres you’ve got to hear and appreciate to the core, folks.
Chisom opens up the album with carefree vibes in “PSA” and “Stop Me.” There’s such an effortless flow in the rapper’s speech, and once the beats roll in, it liberates your mind from modern world issues and just lets you be, man. Especially the second number, which just hypes you right up with clean beats and a captivating synthesizer piece. I was waiting for the Afro-pop kick, and it arrived sensationally with the energy of “Enough” and “Elite.” There’s a melodic richness with both these numbers, and it blends in a fantastic bond of African cadence and east-coast rap segments. Eventually, a funky soul train reached our destination in “Within,” it’s a vibrant tune with a lovely groove.
The afrobeat hype continues with songs such as “Jackfire.” It’s a sophisticated hip-hop infusion that makes you feel like running to the beach amid the summer heat and partying it up with the boys. Just be sure to clink your welcome drinks to the essence of “Acting Up,” it’s an upbeat rap extravaganza that’ll liven any party you join. Finally, the album exits with a soulful self-titled number, and it had a more sentimental edge compared to the other ones. A jazzy rhythm covers one last ode and sends us off into the sunset.
