Witte, the Hamburg-area project founded by producer Marvin Burfeind and singer-songwriter Kilian Kremer, builds its music around atmosphere rather than flash. Formed in September 2025 inside the former electrical store of Kremer’s grandfather, now the August-Witte-Haus, the duo has turned a family space filled with old wooden floors, forgotten cables, and synthesizers into the creative home of a sound steeped in memory, intimacy, and modern melancholy. Their third release, “Glas und Steine” (“Glass and Stones”), adds a sunnier shade to that world without losing its wistful character.
The song opens with shimmering, melodic textures that immediately create a spacious, immersive atmosphere. Gentle piano slips through the arrangement, giving the track a softer emotional center, while Witte’s high, husky vocals float above it with an unhurried ease. The delivery feels relaxed and intimate, as though the singer is letting a memory unfold rather than trying to force it into the spotlight.
Then the drums come thumping hard, giving the song a stronger pulse and pushing its atmospheric elements toward something distinctly danceable. This contrast is one of “Glas und Steine”’s charms: the music can feel hazy and reflective one moment, then suddenly acquire enough rhythmic momentum to get the feet moving.
There is also a nostalgic warmth running underneath the track. Its summery character feels almost paradoxical against Witte’s usual late-night palette of muted colours, longing, and small-town stillness. Yet that tension works beautifully. “Glas und Steine” sounds like remembering a bright summer evening years after it happened—the details are warm, but there is already a little distance between you and the moment.
Witte’s largely independent approach strengthens that sense of cohesion. The duo develops its music, visual identity, releases, and much of its presentation in-house, allowing sound and imagery to inhabit the same carefully constructed world.
Ultimately, “Glas und Steine” is a gentle expansion of Witte’s sonic universe: shimmery, melodic, nostalgic, and quietly catchy. It lets its atmosphere seep in—and before you know it, you’re humming along.
