Austrian indie artist fencah, the solo project of Max Zauner, steps fully into the spotlight with his new single “Brand New Me,” released on November 14, 2025, via artig Recordings. Known until now as the drummer behind acts like Kitty in a Casket, ELSA, and Greyshadow, Zauner flips the script here, trading the backline for the mic and delivering a motivating indie rock anthem.
“Brand New Me” captures that restless moment when simply functioning isn’t enough anymore and the urge to actually live, choose, and move forward becomes impossible to ignore. It’s the sound of breaking out of routine and breaking through fear, and it sets the tone for his upcoming album Small Room, Full Heart.
The track kicks off with bright, strumming, open and hopeful guitars, instantly pulling you into its forward motion. fencah’s high, husky voice floats lightly above the arrangement, singing with an unforced confidence that makes the message hit harder. As the drums come thumping in, the song finds its groove, playful yet determined, keeping the energy buoyant without losing emotional weight. He sings,“I am trying to be a brand new me,” because “The evening sun is gone and I am barely holding on,” has pushed him to the edge of the pendulum and now it needs to swing. It’s the height of struggle that comes before change.
Instrumentally, the track shines through its balance. Earthy guitar work from René Nesyba and Michael Gansberger gives it warmth, while Johannes Schweiger’s floating keys add lift and texture. The rhythm stays tight and engaging, pushing the song forward like a steady heartbeat. There’s nothing flashy for the sake of it; everything serves the song’s core idea of momentum and self-belief.
By the time “Brand New Me” wraps up, it feels less like a single and more like a declaration. fencah isn’t just introducing himself as a frontman, he’s inviting listeners to do the same in their own lives. It’s honest, uplifting indie rock with purpose, and a strong sign that this new chapter is just getting started.
