Palpitate returns from Šumperk, Czechia, with a striking new single, “Devour,” released on December 5, 2025, and it feels like a band fully leaning into atmosphere, memory, and emotional weight. Led by Milan Skřivánek, Palpitate have carved out a space where heavy music meets introspection, and “Devour” arrives as a slightly melancholic, dreamy metal ballad that lingers long after the final note fades. Recorded at Black Chamber Studio with Dušan Mikulec and featuring Tomáš Holý on bass, Martin Švestka on guitar, and Jan Eliáš on drums, the track remembers what is no longer here. It’s about those moments in life that are long gone but still live under the skin, resurfacing when you least expect them. Mixed and mastered by Martin “Holly” Hollandr, the production keeps everything immersive without sanding off the raw edges.
The song opens with distorted, grinding, thick, and weighty guitars. Soon, Milan’s sharp, high voice cuts through the dark, reflective mood, soaring and almost screeching, to express the urgent yearning. As the drums begin to thump steadily underneath, the track finds its pulse, like a memory unfolding in slow motion. The guitars remain gritty and tense, but it’s dreamy in how the melodies stretch and hover, giving the song space to breathe.
Lyrically and emotionally, “Devour” thrives on longing. It captures the feeling of wanting to relive something beautiful, knowing full well that you can’t. The chorus hits with a bittersweet intensity, where heaviness and vulnerability collide, and the band lets the emotion do the talking rather than overloading the arrangement.
Palpitate shows that metal can be just as reflective as it is powerful. Listen to “Devour” on Spotify.
