Break Free! by ERIK & THE WORLDLY SAVAGES: EP Review
Erik Mut is a Canadian singer and songwriter whose folksy EP “Break Free!” is spellbinding and full of rebellious tracks to uplift oneself. The sound of ERIK & THE WORLDLY SAVAGES has this unique eastern-European twist.
The EP opens up with an exciting rollercoaster of sounds present in the jazzy folk number “Brainwashed.” I’ve heard rhythm sections that were just plain Rock and Roll, and it was easy to hear. But, the overwhelming diversity of “Brainwashed” fills the atmosphere with elements of rock, gypsy jazz, and a part of European folk that requires more attention. Ultimately the result is marvelous, and a joy to hear. This is especially the case with the fast-paced sections and the groovy guitar solo that comes on near the end. I was absolutely captivated by the serenity of “Sunshine.” The orchestral bits had an emotional pull, and the screams elevated the passion of the track.
I applaud the abundance of instruments played on the EP. Especially the violin, and accordion segments. “Glass Cage” is one such track, where the cinematic essence is top-notch. The accordion-style intro just puts you in a different part of Earth, as the sounds are quite moving. Later on, when the violin enters the gripping tale unfolds, and the singer takes the mic for a grand entrance. With that being said, I immensely enjoyed listening to the music of ERIK & THE WORLDLY SAVAGES, and I’m sure you will too!
