London N1 singer-songwriter Tom Minor kicks the door wide open with โChange It!โ, a Boxing Day release that comes like a necessary interruption. Itโs the latest step toward his upcoming sophomore album Ten New Toe-Tappers for Shoplifting & Self-Mutilation, and it lands with the confidence of someone whoโs done waiting politely for things to improve. This is existential indie with its sleeves rolled up, borrowing muscle from vintage soul and indie rock while sneering at inertia.
โChange It!โ wastes no time getting its boots dirty. Fuzzy guitars buzz away with purpose, thumping drums keep the pulse stubbornly alive, and a Hammond organ slips in with a light, funky swirl that softens the punch just enough. Minorโs high, nimble voice rides the groove with his usual engaging urgency and wit, sounding restless but oddly buoyant, like someone whistling while tearing down old wallpaper. The chorus mantra โ Iโm gonna change it, ok? โ feels deceptively simple, but repetition turns it into a dare rather than a plea, as if heโs stopping himself from procrastinating or delivering whatโs promised.
Halfway through, the track swerves. Johnny Dalston steps in on guitar and vocals during the bridge. โSister and brother, can you spare me a paradigm?โ hits like a throwaway line until you realize itโs the songโs real question.
Towards the end, you will find spoken-word lines creeping underneath the refrain like intrusive thoughts you canโt quite shake. That monologue โ sharp, weary, and faintly surreal โ reframes the song as more than a motivational chant. Itโs about rot, routine, and the creeping sense that time is boxing you into a corner.
Produced by Teaboy Palmer (aka The Basher of Belsize Park), โChange It!โ balances grit with clarity, rebellion with groove. Itโs a call-to-arms for anyone stuck between confusion and conviction, staring down FOMO and deciding, finally, to step into the ring. Minor doesnโt promise answers โ just motion. And when you are starting out, thatโs all thatโs required.
