Rooted in alternative, punk, and post-hardcore, Sandusky, Ohio-based band Wexford delivers a potent and impassioned offering, “Change Your Mind.” This single serves as a rallying cry for confronting self-doubt, embracing change, and seizing control of one’s destiny before it’s too late.
From the outset, “Change Your Mind” commands attention with raw energy and a driving rhythm. It starts with drums pounding in lone until the distorted fuzz of guitars comes grazing in, creating an earful of an electrifying soundscape.
The song unfolds with the guitars only grazing harder with the distortion blazing. The lead vocalist Dave Mueller delivers a stirring performance as, his voice goes from contemplative introspection to urgent insistence. With its impassioned plea to “take the time/somehow change your mind,” the chorus serves as a powerful mantra for personal growth and transformation. As a wake-up call to action, the vocalist hollers out. With the backing vocals bringing a despondency to the narrative, the dire need to change our minds and lives becomes prominent.
Lyrically, “Change Your Mind” offers a nuanced exploration of the struggles associated with self-doubt and indecision. From the third-person perspective of a loved one wasting away to the first-person account of grappling with internal expectations, the song depicts the importance of chasing your dreams and staying focused on utilizing your qualities instead of wasting your potential away.
“Change Your Mind” is the first taste of the whole dish coming up with Wexford’s full-length album, “Silent Key,” this very June. So stay tuned!
